Free stuff in Sydney

Vibe: Fun without a price tag

  • Swim laps in one of the 30 ocean pools that dot the coastline from Palm Beach to Cronulla – the water's warm enough to swim at any time of the year.
  • Free art? The Art Gallery of NSW runs free guided tours of its Yiribana Aboriginal gallery, along with daily guided tours of the Asian galleries and highlights of the permanent collection.
  • Sydney is ringed by coastal walks between the Spit and Manly in the north, and Bondi and Coogee in the south. Cool for views and keeping fit for free.
  • Random pieces of sculpture around central Sydney are actually part of the Sydney Sculpture Walk, a two-hour, self-guided hike through the city's parks and thoroughfares.
  • The city's centre for contemporary art, the MCA, has free guided tours every day with free entry to all its exhibitions.
  • Set foot on an icon with a walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge, from the historic Rocks to Milsons Point in the north. A great walk and top spot for happy snaps.
  • An Aussie BBQ in Centennial Parklands is absolutely free – except for the cost of the snags. It's a beautiful location with duck ponds, woodlands, and plenty of space to throw a frisbee.
