Montague Island Nature Reserve Tours
Monitor a penguin colony on Montague Island Nature Reserve, south of Sydney, on an award-winning, two-night guided tour. Operated by NSW National Parks and Conservation Volunteers Australia, the fully catered tour has won multiple tourism awards.
Montague Island is a wildlife sanctuary about 9 km off Narooma, a seaside town five hours’ drive from Sydney on the beautiful South Coast of NSW. The island is home to hundreds of seals, more than 90 bird species and little penguins, the world’s smallest penguins.
The conservation tour provides visitors with the opportunity to participate in surveying 120 penguin nest boxes from the island’s colony of little penguins. Participation is optional and no prior experience is required. Birds are observed, not handled.
Reservations are made through Conservation Volunteers. From Sydney, you can drive along the spectacular South Coast to Narooma or fly to Moruya Airport, where you can rent a car for the 40 minutes’ drive to the town. Bus companies also stop in Narooma.
