Solitary Islands Aquarium
Colourful clownfish and venomous lionfish will captivate you at the Solitary Islands Aquarium, in Coffs Harbour, on the North Coast of NSW. With many more wonderful sea creatures, the aquarium is a window into the beautiful marine environment of the Solitary Islands Marine Park.
The marine park covers a vast 71,000 hectares, with the southern edge beginning at Coffs Harbour. In the aquarium, marvel at creatures that call the Solitary Islands home, including sea anemones and urchins and brilliantly coloured angelfish.
Tours are available with a qualified guide. Children will be enchanted by the marine life and can also enjoy games and activities. It’s open every Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and every day during NSW school holidays. It’s closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 26.
The aquarium is in the National Marine Science Centre. From Sydney, the drive along the gorgeous Legendary Pacific Coast touring route to Coffs Harbour is six hours. You can also travel by train from Sydney. Airlines from Sydney service Coffs Harbour Airport. The flight takes an hour.
